Job Title: Field Service Technician

Job Location: 7001 East Fish Lake Road, Maple Grove, MN 55311

Primary Function:

The Technician I will perform electrical testing, maintenance, and start-ups of high voltage substations.  Assignments are closely supervised and designed to further develop employee job knowledge and abilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Perform electrical testing services on power apparatus, substations, and switchgear included (but not limited to) the following:
    • Protective relays and relaying systems
    • Circuit breakers
    • Power transformers
    • Current and potential transformers
    • Meters, transducers, and power system metering
    • Power Cables
    • Grounding Systems
    • Motors and Motor Starter
    • Station Batteries and Chargers
    • Alarm Systems and Annunciator
  • Perform troubleshooting and problem identification and analysis. Make recommendations regarding corrective action and/or repairs
  • Generate technical reports detailing services provided, problems found, and corrective action taken or recommended
  • Represent the company in a professional manner with regard to communicating and interfacing with clients
  • Communicate effectively with the company management team on a regular basis regarding project status and the scheduling of manpower and equipment
  • Make safety a top priority, realizing that the company has Zero Tolerance for those who do otherwise
  • Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrcal Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution is preferred. For our Field Supervisor position, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
 

Possession of skills in the following areas:

  • Proficiency in electrical testing methodologies and related software tools
  • Working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, ICEA, and NETA standards
  • Ability to interpret and draw one-line, three-line, AC/DC, and control diagrams
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills (including trigonometry)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a TWIC card
  • Must pass drug, alcohol, and background checks

Other Information:

  • Work situations will require an adjusted work schedule, possibly long days, evening/weekend hours in order to meet customer requirements
  • Must be able to work on feet throughout the work shift
  • At times will be required to work in austere working conditions
  • Be able to properly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Travel to job sites is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work may occur in hazardous or outdoor environments (substations, petrochemical plants, refineries).
  • Overnight travel up to 25% may be required.
  • Extended or weekend hours as needed for project schedules.
  • Indoor work for documentation, training, and coordination tasks.
  • Must work safely in all weather conditions and confined spaces.

Compensation / Benefits

Compensation:

$60,000 - $190,000 yearly
The compensation range for this position is compliant with all local and state regulations and is based on several factors such as work experience, education, qualifications, and internal and external market factors. Total annual compensation for this position will consist of a base salary and upper level positions (Senior Technician and Field Supervisor) are eligible to participate in our discretionary annual incentive compensation program (ACIP).
