Job Title: Facilities Studies Engineer

Job Location: 12301 Kurland Drive, Houston, TX 77034.

Primary Function:
Work with representatives from Electric Utilities and Developers to determine system impacts of connecting Developer’s proposed generation to the ERCOT grid. Develop high-level station layout and station placement recommendations, and work with Utility representatives to determine feasibility of installation as well as any related modifications required to the overall electrical system.

Duties & Responsibilities
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Work with Utility representatives and project team to determine interconnect station location and design requirements.
  • Participate in pre-kickoff meetings with Utility representatives to review information provided by the customer and discuss how best to proceed.
  • Participate in kickoff meeting with developer to clarify project requirements.
  • Participate in site visits to determine the preferred and alternate locations for the station and any hinderances to construction.
  • Review Utility Study Documentation to determine overall system impacts.
  • Coordinate the creation of the single line diagram, electrical layout, property layout and vicinity map drawings with the design team.
  • Coordinate the relay protection requirements with Utility System Protection Engineers.
  • Coordinate Transmission Line requirements with T-Line Engineers and Utility representatives.
  • Send all drawing out for internal review.
  • Prepare estimates and high-level schedules for the new station and any upgrade work required at existing stations.
  • Prepare the Facility Study Report and submit for internal review.
  • Following review, update the Facility Study documents to incorporate changes.
  • Review and populate as necessary the Generation Interconnection Agreement to ensure it is aligned with the Facility Study.
  • If the Developer moves forward with the project, participate in handoff meeting with the project execution team.
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your work.
  • Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party.
  • Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments.
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university, with a power background preferred. Professional engineer license preferred. Two to ten years of related experience and/or proven knowledge in power engineering and design is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires minimal physical effort.
  • Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to year around weather conditions and noise.
  • Must be able and willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%)
  • Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.
  • May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
