Primary Function:
The Assistant Project Manager is a developing project management professional who supports the execution of medium- and high-voltage electrical substation, transmission line, and distribution line construction projects in industrial and utility settings. Working under direct supervision of a Project Manager, the Assistant Project Manager assists with project administration, subcontract and purchase order support, and coordination between project team members, subcontractors, and vendors within a defined commitment authority. The position will be based in our Houston, Texas office located at 12301 Kurland Dr Houston, Tx 77034 and will report to Dashiell's Project Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Assist the Project Manager with day-to-day administration of assigned projects, including documentation, filing, and tracking of project records.
  • Support the creation and issuance of subcontracts and material purchase orders within assigned commitment authority; route items exceeding authority to the Project Manager for approval.
  • Assist in monitoring project schedules, budgets, and change orders; flag variances or areas of concern to the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate with Construction Management, Purchasing, and Engineering to confirm material requirements, delivery schedules, and drawing status.
  • Support preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports, meeting notes, and client correspondence under the Project Manager's direction.
  • Assist with tracking of subcontractor and vendor invoices, coding, and approval routing in coordination with Accounting.
  • Help maintain project files, bill-of-materials tracking, and change order logs in accordance with Dashiell's project management process.
  • Attend project meetings, take notes, and follow up on assigned action items.
  • Learn and apply Dashiell's project management process, including project award, drawing requirements, accounting, and procurement procedures.
  • Support project closeout activities, including collection of completion documentation and bill-of-materials reconciliation.
  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Free up Project Manager capacity for higher-level project leadership by handling administrative and coordination tasks with accuracy and reliability.
  • Support on-time, on-budget project delivery by helping track schedules, purchase orders, and change orders before issues escalate.
  • Build a strong foundation in Dashiell's project management process that prepares the incumbent for advancement to Project Manager.
  • Contribute to accurate project reporting and documentation that supports informed decision-making by project and senior leadership.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field required; equivalent professional experience of 4 or more years may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Basic understanding of construction project workflows, purchase orders, and subcontract administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines under supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and take direction from the Project Manager.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Preferred

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in construction, project coordination, or a related support role; internship or co-op experience in an EPC or construction environment may be considered.
  • Experience with project management or cost control software such as Primavera or Microsoft Project.
  • Familiarity with high-voltage substation, transmission, or distribution construction.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods during office-based work.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during field visits.
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain, gravel, and graded surfaces.
  • Ability to navigate active construction environments including stairs, ramps, and temporary walkways.
Environmental Conditions
  • Combination of climate-controlled office work and outdoor construction environments.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and industrial conditions during site visits.
