Realtime Utility Engineers, Inc. (RUE) is a consulting engineering firm providing Substation and Transmission Line Engineering, as well as field services such as commissioning, testing and construction project management, to electric utilities nationwide.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are currently seeking a Designer based out of our Madison, WI office. The position will perform design and drafting support for the Electrical Engineering Department.  May be assigned with full or partial responsibility of the physical and/or protection and control design for substation projects. 
  • Primary responsibility is to prepare/revise a large variety of electrical documents from client sketches, specifications, marked prints or oral/written descriptions.
  • Responsible for meeting project schedules and budgets.  Will meet with clients as necessary.
  • Assists project team in solving design problems.
  • Creates physical substation drawings from design specifications & vendor drawings.
  • Develops wiring diagrams based upon design of other Designers and/or Engineers.
  • Participates in research for material and product selection.
  • Performs site visits with Substation Engineer as required.
  • Maintains clean and orderly computer files and directories using established policies and procedures.  Supports and troubleshoots engineering software applications.
  • Establishes methods for improving productivity by optimizing the use of computer software.  Performs software loading, upgrades and customization as needed.
  • Assists when required with field work to check information relevant to project drawings.
  • Performs quality and accuracy checks of work of other employees.
  • Efficient use of software, materials and equipment is required, resulting in minimal operational cost.  All work time, unless otherwise directed, will be spent performing work that is billable.
  • Mentors CAD Technicians and those Designers with less experience.
  • Additional duties as assigned
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.  In lieu of an Associate’s degree, five years of work experience in substation CAD and or substation design may fulfill educational requirements
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Microstation
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes (including but not limited to IEEE, NEC, NESC)
  • Working knowledge of computer applications (including but not limited to Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat)
  • Candidate must pass a Background and Drug Screening (required)
Candidates will be placed in the appropriate job title based on education, years of experience and industry knowledge.
